LG Display has a range of WCG SolutionsWide Colour gamut (WCG) is a hot topic and LG can support this with two different approaches. In one, the firm is adopting a new colour filter that uses thicker filter layers. The second way is to work on the light coming out of the backlight and again there are two different approaches. One way is to change from blue/yellow LEDs to existing B-RG LEDs or new LEDs that have improved performance. The second way is to use a QD film between the LGP in the backlight and the diffuser. LG Display, then can offer four different WCG variants for LCDs as well as offering WCG through its OLEDs. At the moment, WCG is at the high end, but by 2016, LG is confident that by 2016 this technology will be in mainstream sets.
