LG Display Plans OLED Investment

Korea’s Digital Times says that LG Display plans to invest $4.2 billion in new OLED facilities, to meet expected market demand from 2017 onwards.

The new ‘P10’ fab will be located in Paju, South Korea. Discussions will be held later this month to finalise the decision, as well as to decide the exact substrate size of the fab. Production will begin in 2017 or 2018, according to the report.

A separate article, from Money Today, has a similar story, but slightly different details. The plant will be a G8 fab, and LGD will invest $3.55 billion into it. Monthly capacity will be 40,000 substrates initially, and 80,000 by 2018. Production will focus on small- to medium-size flexible OLED displays, as well as large OLED TV panels.
