LG Display facing delays in OLEDoS spending plan

What They Say

The Elec said that plans by LG Display to make OLEDoS displays (after being requested by Apple) for headset use have been delayed as there is no agreement between LG Corporation, the holding company of LG Group, and LG Display on how to finance the development. The site said that the initial equipment would cost 200 billion won ($150 million) but orders for equipment for OLED deposition, color filter formation, and thin-film encapsulation have not been placed.

What We Think

As Barry Young pointed out (LGD’s Dilemma – LCD Panels Unprofitable & Getting Worse, But OLEDs Can’t Carry the Revenue Burden (Part 1)) financing new ventures is likely to be challenging for LG Display in the current climate when it is losing money with little sign of a quick upturn.  (BR)
