LG Differentiates With Friends

LG’s stand was mainly devoted to the G5 and LG Friends, which we had already seen at the launch event.

There were three new devices, however: the LG X Screen, X Cam and Stylus 2 smartphones (MWC is Here!). These will be launched in April. All of them have 2GB of RAM, 16GB of ROM and an SD card slot.

Like the V10 (LG Goes Dual-Screen, Dual-Camera for Content Creation), the X Screen features a second always-on display above the main display. The primary screen is 4.93″, with 1280 x 720 resolution; the secondary screen is 1.76″, with 520 x 80 resolution. The phone has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 2,300mAh battery. The cameras are 8MP (front) and 16MP (rear).

LG X Screen phoneThe X Cam shares a feature with the flagship G5: the wide-angle camera on the rear of the device, although it is lower resolution (5MP). The main rear camera is 13MP, and the front camera is 8MP. Display size is 5.2″ and resolution is 1920 x 1080. Battery size is 2,520mAh. The phone octa-core processor is 1.144GHz.

Finally is the LG Stylus 2, a phablet with – of course – a stylus. It has a 5.7″ display (1280 x 720), 1.2GHz quad-core processor and 3,000mAh battery. Front camera resolution is 8MP and rear camera is 13MP.

Analyst Comment

We were surprised that the Cam+ is just a processor and battery, it does not add any optical functionality, but exploits the dual lenses more efficiently. Like Tom, I was underwhelmed by the headset. I could not get the image to focus and the headset feels very flimsy. The nose rubber came off and took a long time to fiddle back on. (BR)
