LG Adds 21:9 Monitors in US Including 38″

LG Electronics announced in the US and at IFA, three 21:9 monitors. There is a new 38″ curved unit,(model 38UC99) and two 34″ models, one (34UC79G) that is curved, supports 144Hz refresh and is intended for gamers, while the other (34UM79M) is flat. The 38″ has 3840 x 1600 resolution (5.85 megapixels) and with 99% of sRGB colour gamut, while the 34″ units support 3440 x 1440. It also has a USB type C port that can connect and charge notebooks and phones (although details of exactly what this supports were sketchy at press time). The monitor has stereo (and Bluetooth-equipped) speakers that are claimed to have strong bass support. The 38″ will cost $1,499 and starts to ship in the US in September.

The 34UC79G gaming monitor supports “advanced” one millisecond Motion Blur Reduction and AMD FreeSync. along with features such as Black Stabilizer and Dynamic Action Sync. Black Stabilizer is claimed to provide extra clear contrast, allowing viewers to detect darker objects hidden in hard to see areas. Dynamic Action Sync reduces input lag so that users can enjoy fast-paced gameplay without any delays. The monitor also offers a crosshair option that adds a fixed target to the center of the screen to increase accuracy during FPS games, as well as a mouse line hook to prevent drag resistance caused by the mouse cable. The monitor will cost $699 and will be available from October.

The 34UM79M features built-in Google Cast, allowing user’s to stream content from their personal smartphone or tablet device to the monitor. Multitasking is said to be easier with the Split Screen 2.0 feature, which offers 14 preset layouts that can be resized to the user’s preference, allowing users to easily work in multiple programs simultaneously or enjoy watching content in a different window while they’re working. Pricing is $599 and shipping starts in November.
