What They Say
LG Electronics has a new monitor, the 32UQ890 that uses a camera to watch the user’s posture and position and automatically adjusts the monitor in tilt and height.
The monitor has UltraHD resolution and supports 95% of DCI-P3, contrast is 1,000:1 and response time is quoted at 5ms. Pricing has not yet been announced.
What We Think
As I mentioned in my DD about the bendable monitors, I’m not a big fan of this kind of motorisation in most cases. Usually, the functions are only used for a short time then the extra cost and complexity are wasted. I’m also not sure that any one position, even if guided by AI, can get the ergonomics right for everyone, although I have often seen very bad set-ups that can’t be good ergonomically, over the years.
I can see that in situations where different users of different shapes and sizes might be using the same display at different times, the automatic change might help avoid bad ergonomic mis-match.
The monitor is expected to be shown at IFA which opens tomorrow, so I hope to see it in the next few days and will report again. (BR)
