Digitimes reported that Lextar is the supplier of miniLED backlight units for new Xiaomi TVs and gave some technical details on the configuration. The 4K/8K 82″ sets are said to have:
- 15,360 mini LEDs based on POB (package on board) design enabling
- 960 local dimming zones,
- 4,096 shades of grey,
- ultra-high contrast of 400,000:1 and
- brightness of 2,000nits
- for cost reasons, only 240 local dimming zones are used in the 4K set
- Samsung LCD panels
- Assembly by China-based New Optics (Guangzhou)
- 5G connectivity
- Price of CNY49,999 (US$7,353) for 8K, CNY9,999 ($1,475)
What We Think
MiniLED is going to be a significant share of the market if costing can be reduced. Digitimes suggested that Lextar is forecasting 10% of its revenue from miniLED next year. (BR)
