Lenovo, Asus, Dell and HP Displace Apple as the Leading Laptop Brands

Laptop Mag said that it thinks that Lenovo is now the leading laptop brand with Apple dropping to fifth place in its annual survey. Apple was top for the past seven years dominating Laptop Mag’s Best and Worst Brands, but now has been overtaken by Lenovo, Asus, Dell and HP.

Laptop Mag has been publishing the best and worst laptop brands list since 2010. Ratings of each major manufacturers are based on product quality, innovation, value and selection, design, and technical support.

While Apple is still top for technical support, the company dropped in the list due to lower review scores and limited value and selection in its line-up. Apple alienated many mainstream consumers this year, by pricing its new laptops above $1,299. Also, Apple’s new MacBook Pros had no USB ports or an SD-card reader, and that was a blow to many creative professionals.

The winner this year, Lenovo, produced many high-quality laptops, particularly in its ThinkPad and Yoga lines. Lenovo also provided strong technical support and innovations, including the completely flat Halo keyboard for the Yoga Book.

Last of the 10 brands rated, was Microsoft, mainly because of the lack of new products and innovation. Microsoft’s only laptop-related product release was a new performance dock for its existing Surface Book. Samsung took ninth place due to a combination of poor tech support, limited selection and lower-rated products.

The evaluation period for the 10 laptop manufactures was from 1st February 2016 to 1st March 2017.
