Leicester Square Screen Unveiled by Ocean

Ocean has installed a new digital screen in London’s Leicester Square. The screen is located in the centre of London’s entertainment district, and forms part of a $8.7 million investment in the Vue cinema, which has a big screen entertainment heritage dating back to 1938 when it was originally built by Warner Brothers.

The new screen is in response to demand by advertisers for other premium locations, and adds to other strategic locations, including the Piccadilly Circus, Westfield Stratford and phase two of Westfield London. The Leicester Square screen was launched with One Plus as its advertising partner and runs for two weeks.

The screen has a screen resolution of 1488 x 624, and measures 12.4 m wide x 5.2 m high (40.68’ x 17’). It is expected to deliver advertisers 3.5 million impacts per fortnight.

Analyst Comment

We calculate the pitch at around 8.3mm which would seem reasonable for this distance from the nearest viewer. One source quoted the maker as ‘Jumbotron’, but we suspect that they were confused! If we’re the ones that are wrong, please let us know. (BR)
