Devesh Mistry, a postgraduate research student at the University of leeds, is developing a liquid crystal contact lens. The lens could restore long-sightedness in older people, whose natural lenses are less elastic than younger people. Devesh is developing synthetic replacements, and hopes to have a prototype ready by 2018. The product, which could also be used to combat cataracts, could be ready within a decade.
