LCD vs. OLED: Why your next laptop should have an OLED display (according to Asus)

What They Say

While digging around on the Asus site, we spotted a blog article that went through the reasons why buyers should look at a notebook using an OLED display. While most of them were what we would expect to see (WCG, low blue light, better blacks, high speed), the firm also highlighted bigger colour volume. (see the chart below).

There is a video that goes through the items in the article here.

By chance, the next place we were looking was a review of an Asus 16″ OLED-based notebook which the DPReview photography site really liked.

What We Think

As we reported last week, Asus is the winner in the OLED notebook market and it is good to see the firm using well reasoned and well presented content to promote its product – not the actions we always see from Taiwanese brands.

It made think twice when I saw the argument about colour volume. I have got so used to the idea that OLED has a weak colour volume because of the weakness in this area of WOLED panels, that it seemed strange, but given that the Samsung-supplied IT panel in the notebook uses an RGB architecture, it’s not so surprising.
