LCD TV Sales to Recover in 2018

WitsView of Taiwan has forecast that TV shipments will recover slightly in 2018 after falling to 210.63 million in 2017.

Jeff Yang, assistant research manager of WitsView said:

“The panel prices have tumbled more than 17% on average since 2Q17. Coupled by the sales on China’s annual Singles Day and Black Friday, the shipments continue to rise.”

TV brands expect shipments to continue rising ahead of Chinese New Year, and to further expand during global sports events such as Winter Olympics, Super Bowl and World Cup.

The firm published its estimates for 2017 sales by brand and its forecast for 2018. Samsung is expected to continue to focus on larger sets and the more profitable segments. UHD and 49″ and larger sets will be more than half of all sales. The company estimates, along with others, OLED TV sales in 2017 at 1.5 million.

Although WitsView expects the ranking of brands to be the same at the end of 2018, clearly Sharp will be very close to Sony and us forecast to grow by 28.7%. On the other hand, Samsung is expected to decline by around 1%.
