What They Say
Confirming what Sigmaintell said earlier in the week, DSCC reported on the fall in TV prices in October and included a forecast for the rest of this year. The forecast shows a significant flattening in the price of small panels but with 49″/50″ and 65″ continuing to drop quite sharply, although less sharply than the last three months. The firm said that by then end of the year, QoQ price declines will be from 18% to 41%.

What We Think
The prices quoted are for open cells without backlights, but it’s amazing to see pricing for 32″ heading back towards 1$ per inch. I remember the discussions in the early days of LCD TV when the feeling was that the market would accelerate properly when the cost got to $100 per inch! The ability of the industry to drive cost down relentlessly for decades is astonishing. It’s particularly impressive as the impact of Moore’s Law is limited on flat panels. (BR)
