LCD TV Panel Market Set for Balance in 2018

Witsview expects the TV market to pick up in 2018, driven by promotions based on lower panel prices. The company doesn’t expect a significant over-supply until 2019. Although fabs such as the new G10.5 fab will be in operation in 2019, the firm expects only a limited impact because it will take some time to get good yields. Anita Wang of Witsview said that the fab will only add 3% to global capacity in 2018, rising to 6% to 8% in 2019.

Although the new BOE fab has started production, serious volume is not expected by the analyst until March 2018. The firm believes that BOE’s target for 2018 is 2 million 65″ panels, but could reach 3 – 4 million.

Witsview said that the percentages only include the input (by area) of new fabs and exclude the capacity expansion of existing fabs. Data:Witsview, Image:Meko
