LCD panel makers post sequential falls for January revenues

What They Say

AUO was down 7.8% in revenues on the month of January on a sequential basis to $950 million, but a long way up on a year ago at the start of the pandemic. Area shipments dropped by the same percentage. The firm said that it expects impacts from the problems in glass supply to impact growth in Q2 and Q3.

In contrast, Innolux reported sales of 12.54 million large panel shipments and 26.58 million small panels, down 4.1% and 14.3% on a monthly basis, respectively. Revenues, on the other hand, were up 1.9% monthly and up 65.9% annually.

Hannstar shipped 21.31 million small panels (down 7.3% on December) and 237,000 large panels, down 21.3%. Revenues were down 3.5% at $88 million.

What We Think

We like to report each month on the volume shifts in Taiwan, but this month, for the first time in years, AUO did not report its volumes but just the overall display area. We have reached out to the company to see if we can get volume numbers so that we can re-instate our monthly chart. (BR)
