Kyocera International has announced that it is expanding its US production capcity to incorporate full-service integration of LCD displays, touch-panels and protective glass.
The company is championing its new optical bonding technology, which it claims “dramatically enhances the LCD viewing experience” and “reduces reflection by 70% while improving color saturation, clarity and improving screens’ ruggedness”.
Kyocera claims several advantages of optical bonding over conventional perimeter bonding, which is said to create an air gap between the surface of the LCD panel and its protective surface, trapping moisture and foreign particles, leading to a washed out image.
Other adhesives have been found to create other visual problems, so Kyocera has developed a special UV-cured adhesive that has similar optical transparency to air, while eliminating the air gap.
