Kairos Makes Mechanical Watches Smart

Kairos is trying to keep everyone happy by transforming old mechanical watches into ‘smartwatches’ (of sorts). The ‘Tband’ (currently being funded on Indiegogo) is a new strap with a rigid section containing the electronics – including sensors, a rechargeable battery and a USB port. Three versions will be available: the ND, which alerts users to notifications through an LED indicator and vibrations; the HD has a simple alphanumeric display; and the OD features a curved (170 ppi) OLED display. The OD’s display features touch and an anti-scratch coating; it is the only band that can link to computing devices, send message and that features its own processor (AMD Cortex-M4).
