JDI Working on Dual Display Phones

The Nikkei reports that JDI has developed a dual screen concept that allows two LCDs to be used to open and close like a book and is said to be working with Chinese brands to commercialise a handset that will be available in mid-2017. Apps can run across both displays or a single one.

The paper reports that JDI worked with Minebea to create a module that has 1mm bezels so that the centre gap between the panels is less than 2mm.

Analyst Comment

I seem to remember that somebody (Sony?) had this kind of concept, but one of the challenges was getting apps to support the different screen architecture. (BR)
