Japanese Looking for Safer Motorbikes – with Smart Helmets

What They Say

In an article about the development of the motorcycle market in Japan, Nikkei reported on information being shown in ‘smart helmets’. The Nikkei also reports that Robert Bosch has a distance measuring system for motorbikes (image below) and that Yamaha is trying very hard to make motorcycles that have dual front wheels steer like traditional motorbikes, but retain more stability at low speed. The average age of motorcycle buyers in the country is over 50 years and so there is an increasing demand for safe motorbikes.

What We Think

The article referenced Shoei, which showed smart helmets at CES in 2019, with a promise of shipments in 2020, but after a quick look around, I couldn’t see that they are available yet. (BR)
