iPhone Assembly Hit by Covid Lockdown

What They Say

The Economist said that videos have been made of workers fleeing a huge iPhone-assembly plant in Zhengzhou, in central China, after the facility was locked down to contain a covid-19 outbreak. Reuters has quoted ‘A person with direct knowledge of the matter’ as saying that 30% of production of iPhones could be lost in November and that Foxconn is boosting production in Shenzen to try to compensate for the loss of production. It also said that videos could not be independently verified.

Disney’s theme park in Shanghai was also closed, apparently with visitors unable to leave without a negative test.

What We Think

At some point, China will have to unlock. Let’s hope that when it does it can avoid the kind of horrendous tragedy that we saw in Korea over the weekend. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims. (BR)
