What They Say
I was very pleased to see that Apple has released iPad OS 16.2 for download. The OS upgrade is significant as it contains the deferred improvement in support for external monitors via the firm’s Stage Manager software.
I downloaded it and installed it. I connected to my Lenovo Thunderbolt Dock and was pleased to see that the whole of the display surface was being used as well as the mouse and keyboard. I tried my favourite iPad video editing app, Lumafusion, and it worked really well, using the full UltraHD resolution of the monitor although the way I have my audio configured, there was no audio out from the dock. Sadly, my other iPad apps, the Affinity suite from Serif, didn’t work so well, with the menus not appearing. I guess there will be a lot of apps that will need to be updated to work correctly.
What We Think
I plan to do more work on this to try to get as much as I can working on the iPad. The M1 processor in the iPad Pro is so powerful that I might be able to replace my PC if I can get the external display support working well. We’ll see… (BR)
