Internet: Old TV caused village broadband outages for 18 months

What They Say

The BBC reported that a village in a rural part of Wales, in the west of the GB, suffered problems with broadband connections, starting at 7.00am every morning. Technicians checked the village with a spectrum analyser and found that the problem was RFI from an old TV.

What We Think

Avoiding RFI is a problem that is a bit like a Covid mask. It may not cause the person that is causing the interference a problem any issues, but may harm others. It’s not usually an issue for displays which are correctly designed and meet international standards, but for low volume ‘one off’ installations, it can be an issue. We have previously reported of problems caused by large LED displays which caused problems at airfields in the US. (FCC Steps up Action on LED Screens) (BR)
