Interactive whiteboard shipments to gain momentum

What They Say

Digitimes Research published some data on the market for LCDs in Interactive WhiteBoards (IWBs). Although sales of IWBs were weak in the first half of the year, for 2020 as a whole, demaind is reported to have been 10% up in 2020 as the second half saw more remote study from home (SFH) and work from home (WFH) activities.

Commercial-use IWB shipments increased 30% on year in 2020 and are expected to grow at a CAGR of over 20% in 2020-2023, Digitimes Research estimates. However, shipments of educational IWBs will grow at a 5% CAGR in 2020-2023 due to the saturation of the market in Europe, the US and China.

Since panels sized 65″, 75″ and 86″ are the mainstream for IWB applications, BOE Technology and CSOT are seen as likely to dominate the IWB market because of their optimised fabs for large sizes.

BOE and CSOT combined accounted for over 50% of the global IWB market in 2020, and the two firms are expected to overtake LG Display to become the top vendor for 86-inch IWB shortly.

What We Think

I’m surprised the IWB market managed to grow over the year. Still more hybrid working and education is likely to be seen in the future, so large screens in meeting rooms and classrooms will be needed. (BR)
