Following its acquisition of Basis in March (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 10), Intel has revealed its first smartwatch. The Basis Peak will be shipped this year and will be thinner and lighter than Basis’ previous watch (produced before the acquisition). It will also feature ‘a better screen’ and battery life, according to Intel CEO Brian Krzanich. “The future is not in devices that are constantly connected to a smartphone”, said Intel’s Mike Bell at the Intel Developer Forum, where the Peak was announced.
