What They Say
A hat tip to OLED-Info which spotted a new development in Italy. A bus tour company, Invisible Cities, has equipped a bus with 8 transparent LG OLED panels so that information is overlaid on the window view outside. The bus is also said to have a network of vents to deliver smells.
The tour takes around 30 minutes to travel between Imperial Forums, Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Circus Maximus and Teatro Marcello
What We Think
By coincidence, I was in Rome for a short break a couple of weeks ago. I wish I had seen this before I went! The electric bus has just two seats side by side, so has reduced capacity compared to a regular minibus. I can see the attraction of this kind of vehicle and can imagine this kind of application becoming quite popular. However, I would expect it to work better with microLED rather than OLED where there is more of a ‘sparse matrix’ and higher levels of transparency as well as more luminance to combat the ambient light.
