According to Digitimes, Innolux is in the process of setting up two new business units in India, a business centre and an “mLED business unit”, which will focus on active matrix miniLED and microLED technologies. Recently appointed vice chairman, Robert Hsiao will spearhead the business centre, which will endeavour to optimise corporate efforts with the company’s ODM clients and strengthen its deployments in India.
Meanwhile, executive VP Ding Chin-lung will head up the mLED business unit. Industry sources have revealed that Innolux’s miniLED technology is ready for volume production.
The company is focusing on large-size devices like LED-splicing public information displays, which will commence production during the fourth quarter of 2018, with miniLED-backlit 65″ TVs coming in the second quarter of 2019. Automotive panels based on active matrix miniLED tech are also planned for 2020.
Sources also revealed to Digitimes that Innolux parent company Foxconn is likely to become a production partner of Huawei ahead of a reported $100 million investment to market its Huawei and Honor-branded handsets in India.
In addition, Foxconn has apparently been in talks with India’s Dixon Technologies and China’s Xiaomi regarding a potential joint development of smart TVs for the Indian market. Sources suggested that Innolux will be a key player in the partnership’s LCD panel supply should it come to fruition.
