Innolux Criticises QDs, Looks to Own Tech

At its recent investor conference, Innolux announced that it will not use quantum dots and will instead focus on its own wide colour gamut technology.

Chairman of the board and CEO Hsing-Chien Tsuan said that QD displays consume more energy than standard LCD displays. QDs were also said to use environmentally-harmful materials (i.e. cadmium, although cadmium-free quantum dots have been in production at Nanoco for several years – we have covered them since 2011 – and Quantum Materials began shipping cadmium-free QD samples this February – TA).

Hsing-Chien did not share any more news on the company’s colour enhancement plans. He did say that Innolux is examining AMOLED and IGZO technologies, but will not rush to market with them.
