What They Say
Innolux has posted a press release highlighting a deal between its CarUX business unit and Corning. CarUX will supply Corning’s ColdForm technology which can act as a cover for large vehicle displays. CarUX is focusing on 20″+ displays for vehicle and was named a GM Overdrive Award winner for 2021.
Separately, the Taipei Times said that Innolux is looking to boost the share of its business that goes into automotive applications from 12% in Q2 2022 (up from 7% two years ago) to as much as 50% as it looks to continue to move away from commodity markets to value added displays.
What We Think
Getting to 50% of revenues from automotive is an aggressive target but the company does have to find a new home as the Chinese makers dominate TV. I was amused by the comment that automotive “offers a buffer against slumps in the TV and PC display markets”. Hmmm… I can think of some suppliers that might point out that the vehicle market has its own ‘ups and downs’!
Corning’s ColdForm technology won a DIA award in 2020 and last year we reported on the revenue potential. (Corning Sees Good Revenue from Automotive Displays) (BR)
