What They Say
Iiyama added to their range of gaming monitors. The Red Eagle GB2770QSU monitor is a 27’’ that uses a ‘Fast IPS’ QuadHD (2560 x 1440) panel that is reported to have a 0.5ms response time (MPRT). The monitor is DisplayHDR400 certified and has Premium Pro FreeSync support up to 165Hz. The monitor has HDMI, DisplayPort and USB (with charging) and headphone connections. The monitor has 13cm of height adjustment.
There are also 23.8″ and 27″ FullHD versions (G-Master GB2470HSU-B1/GB2770HSU-B1) which have 0.8ms response time.
What We Think
I always liked the MPRT metric. Unusually, the technical theory was pretty well backed up with subjective ratings, so a better MPRT seemed to match with better user experiences – and of course that’s not always the case with specifications! Out of curiosity, I looked back in my Display Monitor archive to find that the metric was first reported (by me) in April 2003 when it was introduced by the Japanese chapter of VESA at the DisplaySearch FPD Conference. As I said at the time,
We applaud and encourage this activity. It will help to put the differences between different approaches into numbers in a structured way and is based on genuine evaluation and human factors research. (BR)
