The organisers of IBC reported that 57,669 visitors attended the event across the six days of the show and conference, a new record in the 50th event. The event will take place next year from 13th to 18th September. We’ve caught up with a number of stories that we missed in our main report.
Unfortunately, we missed seeing UK-based technology company, Igloo Vision, at the recent IBC event, as it was launching what it believes to be the world’s first 360° 8K display.
The new display, housed inside an 6M diameter Igloo projection dome, allows 360° filmmakers, content creators and developers to work across the entirety of their content without the need to wear VR headsets. It also enables production teams to work collaboratively on immersive content.
To show the capabilities of the new monitor, Igloo was live-streaming 360° 8K content from across the exhibition halls. Footage was captured with a miniEye 360° camera rig. and, by using the NewTek NDI plug-in for Adobe Creative Cloud, full-resolution, real-time video is sent with audio and transparency across the network, which eliminates the need to render and upload.
MaxLinear and Gospell Technology of Chenzou showed a reference design using the MxL80x Ku-Band downconverter and MxL862 digital channel stacking ICs to allow single cable dCSS LNBs to be introduced at lower cost than some of the solutions currently being developed for multi-channel viewing.
The latest dCSS LNB and PVR STB solution from Gospell includes the following features:
- 32-user band dCSS LNB
- Software programmable channel grid and bandwidth
- Single cable (Unicable) distribution from LNB to the home
- Four-tuner PVR STB with fast channel change, recording and streaming functions
- 4K/UHD decoding and watch plus record multiple channels
- Transcoding and streaming to portable Wi-Fi devices
Nagra and Samsung said that they have worked together to support the use of Nexguard watermarking on sets using the TVKey USB solution for content protection. The TVKey solution can be used on newer model Samsung TVs including 2015-2017 Samsung Smart TVs and the Samsung QLED TV lineup. Support of watermarking fully meets all requirements for Enhanced Content Protection specified by MovieLabs, the joint technology venture of the Hollywood studios that advises studios on topics like content protection.
