What They Say
Huawei has to reduce its use of US technologies in line with US government restrictions, so will move away from Google’s Android to its own Harmony OS 2.0.
What We Think
The OS, which is open sourced, was originally developed for IoT applications but was revealed to developers in 2019. However, investments have now been made to bring the OS more in line with smartphone applications. It is said to be at the 70% to 80% of Android functionality, according to the firm. The aim is to use the OS on devices intended for the Chinese market. While Huawei has huge power in China, being forced to move away from Android is bound to add to the troubles that Huawei will have in other parts of the world. (BR)
