HTC Vive has been experiencing stock issues in the US throughout the month of July so far. A company spokesperson informed Road to VR that this is due to a shortage of a key component in the room scale hardware and that HTC expects stock levels to improve over the coming weeks.
Amazon, Best Buy, New Egg and HTC’s website all sold out weeks ago, and stocks are yet to be replenished. Dell apparently still holds stock and is selling it at the RRP of $499, but other retailers, such as third-party sellers on Amazon.com, are capitalising on the shortage by selling off their remaining stock at inflated prices.
Retailers in Europe are seemingly unaffected by the problems.
