HP has announced a range of four UltraHD monitors for business users. The monitors share IPS panels and USB-C connectivity. There is an EliteDisplay S270n which is a 27″ unit with 5.4ms response time (grey to grey). All four have 350 cd/m² of output and static contrast of 1,300:1. There are also three Z models, the Z27 (8ms response), Z32 and Z43 which have lower dynamic contrast.
The Z Series have support for 100% of RGB and 10 bit colour. The Z27 offers rotation while the Z32 can support height adjustment. The 27″ has three sided narrow bezels, while the 32″ has four slim edges. The Z727 and Z32 are factory calibrated to improve colour performance.
The S270n supports 99% of sRGB and has 10 bit support (8 bit + FRC).
The USB-Type C connections support 60W of Power Delivery on the S270n, 65W on the Z series and DisplayPort 1.2 and there are also dual HDMI ports on the S (one HDMI 2.0 and the other HDMI 1.4), while the Z units have one DisplayPort 1.2, a mini-Displayport, an HDMI 2.0 and a USB Type-C that supports DisplayPort Alt mode.
- The HP EliteDisplay S270n, Z32 and Z43 are available now for starting prices of $549, $899 and $799
- The HP Z27 is expected to be available in April for a starting price of $559
HP also released the G2 Thunderbolt Dock which can support dual UltraHD displays and has an optional audio conferencing module (with Bang & Olufsen branding) using the same connection that clips into the top. It supports power delivery up to 100W. The dock can also supply 15W to a DisplayPort Type-C and there is a VGA port, but no HDMI. The G2 will ship in May, but pricing is to be advised.
Analyst Comment
These monitors help the push towards UltraHD on the corporate desktop. The audio features of the Thunderbolt Dock are intriguing, potentially making the unit an intriguing option for small huddle spaces. However, it is short of an HDMI port, which seems strange if the unit might be used with bigger displays. (BR)
