What They Say
The GfU put out its data for home electronics sales in 2020 in Germany. The fully detailed information can be downloaded here. However here are some items we picked out.
- TV sales were up from 6.475 million to 7.2 million for the year, up 11.2%, but with average prices up just 1.9%. Market value was up 13.3%
- Tablets and Notebooks were both up 26.8% over the year in value, ahead of all PCs at 24.2%. Desktop PCs were up 11.1% in value
- In volume terms, Notebooks were up 23.9% to 4.887 million, while tables were up 12.9
- Monitors for the home were up 59.7% to 4.193 million units
- Consumer projectors were flat (-0.2%) at 109K
- Smartphones were up 1.8% in volume, 3.3% in value and wearables were up 21.9% in volume, 20.4% in value
- Consoles saw growth of 17.6% in units and up 42.3% in value to €684 million, wth ASP up from €265 to €320
What We Think
Given that TVs and projectors did well, initially I was surprised that Home Cinema audio was a long way down, but this may be because of the increased sale of soundbars, which are not currently split out, but included in all loudspeakers, which were up 9.3%, although component audio was down. (BR)
