What They Say
The 8K Association discovered more information about a new H-View HV8107 SoC that was developed by Hisense for its TVs. Details are in the graphic below but the 8KA clarified that although the chip supports 8K/120Hz panel refresh, it can only accept content at up to 8K/60Hz and the extra frames are created using Motion Estimation / Motion Compensation (MEMC).
The Association also dug a bit more into the AI object detection which uses special picture quality control to optimise image quality by recognising objects/scenes in the image (e.g. faces). Thre are special noise reduction processes for still and motion images. The chip has colour management that can make 7168 points for 3D LUT color management and 729 points for 3D LUT RGB management. For zone control, the SoC supports 26,880 zones (H224xV120).
The chip is made on a 22nm process and is the fifth generation of design from the firm.
The 8KA also speculated that Hisense might be developing an 8K professional monitor.
What We Think
The article didn’t suggest that the chip would be available to other makers. The comment on the professional monitor was interesting. In its annual report for 2021, Hisense said that its Commercial Display business increased its overseas sales by 323% YoY growth. Of course, part of that big number might have been a low 2020 result. Over the year, the firm hit a new total revenue of $27.2 billion, up 33% with overseas revenue of $11.3 billion, up 43%. (BR)
