HC Semitek Kicks-Off Giant MicroLED Fab Build With Nod to BOE

In a microblog post on Wechat, HC Semitek announced the kick-off ceremony for its MicroLED wafer manufacturing, packaging, and testing project in Jinwan District, Zhuhai, China. The event was attended by several local dignitarires, including Huang Zhihao, deputy secretary of the Zhuhai Municipal Party Committee and mayor, representatives from the municipal government, and officials from various departments and companies involved in the project. This initiative is meant to attract more upstream and downstream enterprises to Zhuhai, injecting momentum into Guangdong’s construction of a display industry cluster.

HC Semitek is in a strategic relationship with BOE, which is supporting the facility, as well as it having the backing of HC Semitek’s parent company, Huacan Optoelectronics. The total project is expected to cost 5 billion yuan and is then expected to achieve an annual output of 5 billion yuan upon completion of the two phases of the project. The first phase of the project, with an investment of over 2 billion yuan, is planned to be operational by the third quarter of 2024. The fab is to have an annual production capacity of 58,800 MicroLED wafers and 45,000,000 MicroLED devices.
