What They Say
Karl Guttag has done a great piece of work to pull apart the claims for Amazon’s Glow that was announced a few weeks ago. (Phew… Amazon has a Busy Launch Event) He points out that product images were faked and does a great job of dissecting the likely product configuration and he ‘fills in the blanks’ in the specification.
In the image below, he compares the shot from Amazon’s site (live when he posted) and an actual captured image from a video review.
As with most of Karl’s pieces, he expands at some length on why it is the way it is.
What We Think
I’m not sure I should be so pleased to see this ‘hatchet job’. I would really like to see this kind of product do well and really would have been keen to buy one if it met its promise.
I’m also grateful to him for reminding me that one of the early firms with this kind of product was Light Blue Optics. Back in 2004, we started reporting on the firm and it tried hard to make its projectors a success, but with no luck and once the iPad arrived, it switched to exploiting its finger recognition software, working with Promethean among others. Promethean showed a display with the technology at BETT in 2014. (BR)
