GPT-3 – It’s not a Display, but….

What They Say

For the last 20 years, MIT Technology Review has compiled an annual selection of the year’s most important technologies. MIT unveiled this year’s list:

  • Messenger RNA vaccines.
  • GPT-3.
  • TikTok recommendation algorithms.
  • Lithium-metal batteries.
  • Data trusts. A data trust is a legal entity that collects and manages people’s personal data on their behalf.
  • Green hydrogen.
  • Digital contact tracing.
  • Hyper-accurate positioning.
  • Remote everything.
  • Multi-skilled AI.

What We Think

Please indulge me with an article that’s not really display-related as it’s nearly the weekend! I looked at the list and most were clear to me, but I didn’t know what GPT-3 was. It turns out to be the latest and greatest AI technology, enabled by vast data sets and cloud computing power, to be able to process natural language. I watched a Youtube video that showed a set of ‘natural language’ instructions being used to create an app. It looked clever, but I have had nearly forty years of watching demos of programme generators that made this kind of thing easy. However, somehow, programmers are needed!

Still, if the MIT Technology Review thinks that GPT-3 is significant, I think they are probably right. The demos are pretty impressive in the way that the system works out what you want it to do! (BR)
