Google has released details of the next major update to Android TV, due for release later this year. The company has announced that the updated operating system will feature a streamlined set-up process, allowing it to automatically connect with nearby smartphones via Bluetooth, discover apps that have a TV counterpart and transfer login information for them.
It has been said that the operating system will also perform better on ageing hardware than the current iteration of Android TV. The update is part of the next rollout of the overall Android operating system, Android P. Most Android TV devices skipped the Oreo generation, opting to stick with its predecessor, to avoid having to significantly redesign their UIs.
The company also showed at its conference, a small dongle that can run the Android TV stack. (Google Sending UHD and HDR Android TV Dongle to Developers)
