What They Say
We reported rumours that Google was to buy Raxium, a developer of MicroLEDs back in March and that deal has now been confirmed in several places. The Information’s Reality Check said that Google had done the deal ‘before Snap could’. Meta Platforms is also reported to have been interested. The Information reports that Google had a right to first refusal on the purchase. Google having done the deal, Snap then bought Compound Photonics back in January. What We Think
Meta, of course, has an exclusive deal with Plessey, so there are lots of deals being done to get hold of microLEDs. But you also need other parts of the headset systems including waveguides and those companies have been bought up and that could be a bit of an issue for those that don’t have their own technology. More on that in our Display Week follow-ups. (BR)
