Google, LG Sign Patent License Agreement

Google and LG Electronics have signed a long-term and global patent cross-licensing agreement covering a broad range of products and technologies. The agreement covers the two companies’ existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.

The agreement builds on the long-standing strong alliance between Google and LG Electronics, the companies said and also further strengthens the Android alliance between the two firms. Google signed a similar 10 year patent licensing agreement with Samsung at the beginning of this year (Display Monitor Vol 21 No 5). At the time, Samsung’s head of intellectual property centre commented that such agreements showed the industry that there was more to be gained from companies co-operating with each other than engaging in patent disputes (surely a very thinly veiled swipe at Apple! – HV)
