Google Extends Cast Protocol Outside Android

Google introduced its Google Cast protocol – the ability to send content from a mobile device to a larger screen – on its Chromecast and Android TV platforms. Now, Variety says that the company is planning to roll the technology out to other devices. Specifically, it will be built into TVs without Android, the first being from Vizio. Vizio, according to the source, will release the TV in question in the spring, with an Android tablet instead of a remote. Apps will be cast from the tablet to the TV wirelessly; the set will then take over the app’s stream to the server, so that the tablet can be used for other tasks (it will also act as a TV guide).
