What They Say
There was good news and bad news for TCL this week in the world of patents. First DivX LLC said that it had signed a deal with TCL for extending a long term licence that “puts an end to all pending patent litigation matters between the parties”.
On the negative side, Business Korea reported that LG Electronics has filed a suit against TCL after the Chinese maker is reported to have ignored LG Electronics’ license renewal request for over three years.
The technologies in question included TV UI, image and sound processing, and Wi-Fi-related technologies. According to a list of patents shown on LG Electronics’ official website, the six patents are used for LG Electronics’ main TV product groups — organic light emitting diode (OLED) TVs, Nanocell TVs, 8K TVs and 4K Ultra HD TVs.
Business Korea reports that this is the third time that LG has filed a suit against TCL and has previously settled out of court in disputes with Hisense.
What We Think
As always, I don’t comment on IP disputes. They are the way of the world. (BR)
