Corning, LG and the UHD Alliance have announced their plans for CES 2016 (6th – 9th January, Las Vegas).
Corning caused a stir with its 2011 promotional video, A Day Made of Glass (http://tinyurl.com/8psw74h). Now, the company says that the vision has become a reality for retail, automotive, home and other uses. Corning will be showing ‘a whole new approach’ to the idea at CES, featuring glass surfaces with ‘extraordinary capabilities’.
LG Electronics has said that it will expand its Minibeam projector series. The new PH550, PW1000 and PW1500 will be displayed.
A battery-powered model, the PH550 reaches 550 lumens, and is wire-free. Users can mirror mobile devices’ screens over WiFi, or connect to speakers wirelessly using Bluetooth. The other projectors – the PW1500 and PW1000 – value picture quality, reaching 1,500 and 1,000 lumens, respectively.
Finally, LG will show the PF1000U, which was introduced at IFA 2015 (LG’s New Stand Disappoints).
The UHD Alliance has completed its premium specifications for UltraHD displays, content and distribution. The specifications cover both features and consumer-tested benchmarks; they outline performance metrics related to resolution, HDR and wide colour gamut, as well as recommendations for immersive audio, among others. Details, and a consumer-facing certification logo, will be announced at CES.
