According to the latest estimates from GfK, the global consumer electronics market will once again surpass a market volume of $1,000 billion this year, with an increase of just under 4%.
The three largest submarkets, China, Europe and North America, account for approximately 70% of the total volume. Growth is also expected in all three regions: 1% in China, 6% in Europe and 2% in North America. For the remaining regions, market researchers also forecast positive development. Developed Asia will grow by 4%, Emerging Asia by 7%, Latin America by 9% and Middle East Africa by 4%.
Around three-quarters of total revenue comes from three product categories; smartphones account for 48% of total revenue, TVs and mobile PCs 12% and tablet PCs 3%. With a forecast volume of 1.5 billion (+3%), the growth of smartphones will continue in 2018. Televisions will also grow to 236 million units (+5.8%), while PCs will decrease by 3.7% to 283 million units.
