Among those in Germany who do not yet own an UltraHD TV, 28% plan to buy one in the near future. according to a study conducted by GfK on behalf of the Deutsche TV-Plattform. The new standard was recognised by 68% of those taking part and 21% of Germans already own an UltraHD set. Many bought one because they were looking to replace their TV anyway, some looking for better picture quality and some simply looking for a bigger screen or a good deal.
Content played a small role because not much is available yet. Only 52% of respondents were familiar with the term virtual reality, though three quarters could imagine using it occasionally. However, it is predicted that around 2.6 million UltraHD TVs will be sold this year in Germany, bringing total ownership to 5.6 million.
