There were three new notebooks launched at the event in the 7 Series with 12.5″, 14″ and 15.6″ display options. The new systems replace the E7 series. The systems use Intel Gen 7 processors (Kaby Lake) up to Core i7 and run only Windows 10 with memory capacity up to 32GB. There are new function keys, options for FullHD touch displays, palm security and a new aluminium and magnesium chassis. All fit the formal UltraBook category and are 19mm thick. A feature that staff highlighted was the batteries are user replaceable (a sore point with me as my T460S doesn’t have that option – Man. Ed.).
A new feature for Fujitsu is the inclusion of USB Type-C ports with support for notebook charging and also for the DisplayPort Alt Mode so as well as two ‘traditional’ port replicators, one lockable and one without a lock, there is a new USB Type-C dock, although this was not being shown at the event. The notebooks have DisplayPort graphics output as well as VGA and HDMI. The new models start shipping in January.
There was also a new tablet with a magnetic keyboard, the R727. Staff told us that they supported the view, recently expressed by IDC, that corporates are very keen on tablets and convertibles and that this will be a hot category in 2017. The new tablet from Fujitsu, the R727, has a 12.5″ FullHD PLS display with 400 cd/m² and 700:1 contrast and with pen and touch input and weight of 890g (1.96lbs). The new version is only available with an anti-glare screen coating. Other changes include an improved pen that supports 1024 pressure levels, to make it more responsive. Fujitsu has changed the style so that the case is black on the back and the tablets also support BIOS management. The CPUs are from i3 to i7 (7th gen Skylake) and graphics are Intel HD Graphics 620. Connectivity includes mini-DisplayPort and a docking connector for the port replicator. Integrated 4G/LTE is an option.
