Former Huawei unit plans to churn out 100m smartphones in 2021

What They Say

The Nikkei reports that Honor, the company spun off from the low end smartphones of Huawei, plans to make about 100 million sets in 2021. However, there is uncertainty as to whether the firm will be able to get enough parts from US makers in particular. The site reports that Huawei plans to make around 60 million, in addition, which would mean a drop of around 20% from 2020 production. Nikkei quoted Mediatek as saying that it was checking if it was able to supply the firm.

What We Think

Of course, incoming US president, Joe Biden, may change policies, although most analysts seem to think that actions against Huawei will continue. Still, politics can be difficult to forecast! (BR)
