Fitbit has created a new metal-cased smartwatch, the Fitbit Versa. As you would expect, Fitbit highlighted the health-related features and the company said it has a 4+ days battery life. The display is a 34mm diagonal (24.075 x 24.075) LCD, although the resolution information direct from Fitbit was not available at press time, although external sources suggest 300 x 300 resolution. Features include waterproofing to 50 metres which allows the watch to be used for tracking swimming activities. There are fifteen different exercise modes to track workouts. The watch has Bluetooth and NFC so can be used for payments. GPS is supported and there is an optical heart monitor and an ambient light monitor.
Storage is 4.0GB but the processor is not yet identified.
The watch will cost $199/£199 and will ship early in April.
Analyst Comment
After publication we found third party, but credible, sources that highlighted brightness of 1,000 cd/m² which, if accurate, is probably the reason for the use of an LCD rather than an OLED, which tend to be dominant in smartwatches, because of the form factor. (BR)
