What They Say
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg said on the Facebook earnings call that its next hardware launch will be Ray-Ban branded smart glasses developed with EssilorLuxottica.
“The glasses have their iconic form factor, and they let you do some pretty neat things.”
Zuckerberg didn’t clarify what the ‘neat things’ would be although previous reports have said that the glasses would not have integrated displays, so are expected to work when paired with a smartphone.
The Facebook CEO also highlighted the aim of developing a ‘metaverse‘ – a ‘convergence of physical, augmented, and virtual reality in a shared online space’ and seen by his firm as the next major step in the development of online technology.
“I think that this is a persistent, synchronous environment where we can be together, which I think is probably going to resemble some kind of a hybrid between the social platforms that we see today, but an environment where you’re embodied in it.”
